FC Barcelona's leaked white shirt like Real Madrid Sparks Online Outrage

The leaking of images of FC Barcelona's alleged new white away kit for the upcoming season by Footy Headlines has sparked fury online because of the color's association with bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Barca's first choice shirt usually comes in their traditional Blaugrana colors and nothing will change in that respect next term when they will play as defending La Liga champions.

Each season, however, the colors vary for the second, third and fourth shirts. In the ongoing 2022/2023 campaign, Barca went for a gold design which has a map of the city engraved into into its background, plus a grey effort with red and blue crosses. The fourth shirt comes in Catalan 'senyera' colors of yellow with red stripes.

Images of Barca's supposed home shirt for 2023/2024 were revealed online some time ago. On Thursday night, however, the same source as usual - Footy Headlines - leaked pictures of an alleged new white second shirt which will be used on the road when the host team's colors clash with Barca's normal attire.

Mundo Deportivo pointed out that FC Barcelona often wore white in the 1910s, and that it was in fact their main color until 1913. Furthermore, white was also used in European competitions in the 50s, 60s and 70s which has led to the resurfacing of an image of club legend Johan Cruyff donning it.

Online, though, there was backlash as the newspaper's columnist and common detractor of president Joan Laporta, Marcal Lorente, led the criticism.

"Barca will wear white," Lorente tweeted. "As much as they wore it in some specific matches in the past, white is not the color of identity and is associated with the eternal rival.

"I can't imagine Madrid dressed in blaugrana. Symbols cannot be sold for marketing and money," Lorente added.

"The current vice-president, Elena Fort, called it 'sh*t' that the advertising letters on the Barca shirt were white in 2013. Today, with her at the club, it will seem fine to her that white is the color of the entire Barca shirt. They are multiplying x 1000 what they criticized," he concluded.

"I do not like this at all. What an embarrassment," commented a Barca fan on Lorente's Twitter post.

"Regrettable!!!" lamented another, as someone else said that while they liked the shirt, they "wouldn't wear white".

Looking on the bright side of life, however, many Twitter users joked that Barca might finally have things go their way with the referees if they wear the white of Real Madrid in the near future.
